Journal entry by Randy Lee

Update from Katie!!

To all of you who so diligently prayed and sent healing thoughts my way, every day, thank you!

I am taking some time to try and communicate the toughest fight of my life and where I am at today. I had a TRAUMATIC, SEVERE brain injury with BLEEDING on the brain!

First of all, I would not be where I am today without the deep love, support, faith and prayers from my husband Randy. He has shown me his strength, patience and encouragement and remarkable faith in God. From the quick reaction to assessing the situation and getting paramedics here to being by my side every step of the way and communicating to so many on a daily basis.  Keeping you all informed as well so many others.  The comments on caring bridge site and social media are so encouraging and beautiful! To say I am humbled is an understatement!

On 10/13-2021 we had our 6 week follow up with CentraCare Neurosciences Brain and Spine Center Team.  I had a page of questions and they patiently answered every one that I asked.  From going over the first and last CT scans, explaining the surgery, discussing severity of injury, explaining the subdural hematoma and craniotomy I had, and then completing the 7 point neurological exam with me. I told Randy I never cried during the entire hospital stay or recovery time at home, but when I heard what our nurse practitioner said after this exam, that is when I cried!  After completing the exam He said "your neurological exam is completely normal. You are doing quite well. You hit a speed bump. Thankfully you were healthy and strong  before your accident.  You will need to avoid risks, take baby steps, and keep in first gear. Get slowly back to normal. No fall risks.  Sit back down or lean against something when you feel dizzy. You will also notice and experience fatigue. You may have light headaches for a year or more."  Listen to your body and use common sense!

It is obvious to me that God is great and prayers work! The outpouring of love, faith and encouragement from so many is absolutely amazing.  We are so grateful for all your beautiful cards, texts, emails, many meals, pretty flower arrangements, several short visits from friends, neighbors and family and many other good deeds that do not go unnoticed!

So much love, encouragement and belief that I was strong enough to survive and thrive.  And I AM.    God certainly is not finished with me yet.  There is more for me to do on this earth and not take any of you, your families and our many friends for granted!  I am so thankful for every one of you!

Pray, hope and don't worry.   Padre Pio

All my love and appreciation,

Katie
