Kaitlin’s Story

Site created on August 26, 2019

For the past 3 years, Katie has been relying on dialysis to filter her blood while we search for a suitable kidney donor.  On Saturday, August 24, Katie reported to the emergency department with abnormal symptoms and by Sunday was diagnosed with septic shock and multi-system organ failure stemming from an infection in her dialysis catheter.  I (Tim) started this page to keep friends and family updated on her condition.

Katie was discharged today! We had a celebratory dinner at home with family. Kalisse continues to recover well.

Post transplant, Katie will be visiting her clinic twice a week to do bloodwork and revise her medications. Over time, the frequency of visits and dosage strengths are expected to decrease until she reaches a healthy baseline. With proper care, and if the Lord wills, this kidney could last 30 years.

We want you all to know how grateful we are for your patient, persistent partnership with us through Katie's physical trials and discouraging days, as well as the unbelievable reversals of the last few months. What an example of obedience to the calls to "love one another," "be devoted to one another," "care for one another," "serve one another," "bear one another's burdens," and "pray for one another" found throughout scripture (John 13:34, Romans 12:10, 1 Corinthians 12:25, Galatians 5:13, Galatians 6:2, James 5:16).

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
To His feet thy tribute bring;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore His praises sing;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

Praise Him for His grace and favor
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him, still the same as ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in His faithfulness

Father-like, he tends and spares us;
Well our feeble frame he knows;
In his hands he gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy goes.

Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish;
Blows the wind and it is gone;
But, while mortals rise and perish,
God endures unchanging on:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the high Eternal One.

Angels in the height, adore Him;
Ye behold Him face to face;
Saints triumphant, bow before Him;
Gathered in from every race;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.
