Journal
Good afternoon everyone. Just wanted to give you a quick update on Kathy. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were her first chemo treatments. She's been dealing with severe stomach pain and nausea since Tuesday afternoon. Her sodium level was holding steady all week at 135 and then it dropped Saturday to 125 and today to 122. Saturday they did a 4 hour drip AND salt tablets to try and bring that number back up, but to no avail. She was meant to come home Saturday, but due to the sodium levels, they decided to keep her. Chemo has already started to effect her sense of taste and smell, and that combined with the nausea, she doesn't have much of an appetite and hasn't been eating much. We are hoping that when her doctor comes back into town tomorrow, he will come up with a plan to get the sodium under control.
On another note, they have offered to put her into a trial study for Immunotherapy. This immunotherapy has already been approved for later stage cancers with very good results. The study hopes to find that in early stage cancers, like Kathy's, it will help to boost her bodies ability to fight off the cancer cells as well as decrease the rate of reoccurrence. Side effects of this therapy are only 5% chance and are all treatable with steroids with no long term effects. This treatment will run alongside her chemo and radiation schedule.
We will continue to keep you posted on Kathy's progress. Thank you for all your continued prayers and positive energy.
