Journal entry by Kathryn Frederick —
Hi all,
I'm back with another Kathy update... Her CA-125 count (that was near 400 at the beginning of this journey) is now 15.6. Per our doctor, "there is no more evidence of cancer," and as of now, she is CANCER FREE!
As planned, she begins her Avastin (the preventative chemo) treatment today and will receive Avastin every 3 weeks for 12 months. Each time she receives treatment, her CA-125 count will be checked to ensure the cancer does not come back. While there is always an 80% chance the cancer returns, we are praying that Kathy falls in the 20% that remain cancer free.
Overall this is a great day for us, and we are humbled and thankful that we are able to celebrate this milestone. Speaking of celebrations...
Kathy's 65th birthday is September 8th. Given that her immune system is still vulnerable, we most likely will not have a big party. However, I want her to know that she still has a huge support system of wonderful friends. If you're willing, please send me ONE WORD that best describes Kathy to you along with your name. You may send this to me via text at 979-251-4557 or via email at kathryn.frederick93@gmail.com. I plan to display these words and surprise her the day of her birthday.
I can't say it enough: thank you for reading this and following along. We're grateful for friends like you:)
