It's been a few days, but we have good news-- Kathy was discharged from the hospital around 7pm last night and has made the transition to a rehabilitation hospital for the next few weeks!

Monday was our last day in the hospital and was fairly quiet and uneventful. Our doctor swung by and gave us the all-clear after delivering the news that Kathy was doing "a fabulous job" in terms of recovery. Our transporter was very kind and careful and helped us get all of our belongings down. Matthew rode with Kathy to the rehab facility while Jonathan and I tagged along behind.

We are a big fan of the team we get to work with at rehab-- and Kathy is, too! Since we arrived so late on Monday, we took care of introductions and paperwork that evening. We unpacked a little and put all of her cards and photos up on her closet door. The room is beautiful and has a lot of privacy, which is a huge plus! Today (Tuesday) was the evaluation day, with physical, occupational, and speech therapy beginning tomorrow. Matthew and Jonathan dropped by to visit after they finished work and continue to have good things to say about the rehab staff.

Since we are still finishing our initial evaluation period, we will not know our rehab discharge date for quite some time. Our family is excited for Kathy to have the opportunity to continue to heal and regain strength in a lower-stress and more peaceful environment. Since Kathy will be tackling a considerable amount of intense therapy over the next few weeks, we want to be as respectful of her recovery as possible and provide her with ample opportunities to rest. If you would like to visit, please reach out to one of the Ely siblings to help coordinate a time that works best for Kathy! Cards are still very much appreciated and can be mailed to the Ely family home. We will bring them to her!
