Newest Update

Journal entry by Kathy Cross (-Berard)

Lots to catch on. I haven’t posted for awhile. I have officially moved my care to Masonic Cancer Center at The University of Minnesota. I am very happy to be so close to home. My trip to the U, is about 20 minutes versus an hour and a half to Mayo and their satellite location at Fairview Southdale is about a mile away or 5 minutes down the street. And The U of M has a long and excellent reputation in the area of transplants. I’m am blessed to be able to receive such extraordinary medical care. Next week is called “work up week” and I will go through a battery of tests and diagnostics, like bone marrow biopsy, EKG, Electrocardiogram, pulmonary testing etc to make certain I am healthy enough to survive the grueling stem cell transplant process. I will also have a port installed for easy access to administer drugs and save my veins from all those needle sticks. I am certain that I am indeed healthy and ready to go. Bring it!!! I will get more information on the following week but I have a vague understanding that I will be given drugs to increase or help grow stem cells and that stem cell harvesting will begin. I will be given more information on next steps during work up week and update at that time.  I want to thank everyone who has dropped off a meal, groceries, door dash and gift certificates or offered assistance in any way. This has really helped so much during these difficult times and I will be eternally grateful. I will be looking to secure additional help post transplant in the way of daily rides to clinic and those who may be able to sit with me and visit and be available to assist for an extended time. Netflix anyone? If you’re interested and would like to help out,  below is the link to the website. Also, feel free to call or text. Some have told me that they didn’t want to disturb me. I am here, feeling pretty good and I welcome hearing from you.  Thank you so much for your prayers, well wishes and support. It means more than you could know. ❤️❤️❤️
