Journal entry by Stephanie Sunnarborg —
What a year to be thankful and grateful and blessed! Kathie was released from Mayo on Thursday, December 19 which meant she was free to move out of Rochester. She took a few days to get organized and packed before the big departure from the apartment that she and her team of angel caregivers called home for 2 months. At lunchtime Saturday that week Dan and Stephanie arrived to load the car with all the items that had been bought or shared or given to Kathie in her 2 months of unexpected time away from Atlanta. It's amazing what piles up even when you start with just a suitcase for the weekend! Somehow the items filled the SUV but it all fit and by dinner she was snuggly tucked into her room at the Big Red House in Bloomington.
The previous few weeks had been spent trying to get medical tests done and results where they needed to be that would allow for her release. Some meds had to be tweaked to rid Kathie of stomach pains and nausea but she is feeling better and getting around really well. Unfortunately her new home for the Christmas holiday came with 4 flights of stairs (well, half flights) so she got a little more exercise than usual but it all goes towards healing.
The Sunnarborg clan of 9 celebrated Christmas Eve with dinner and church in Bloomington followed by a very cozy Christmas day at the house. We all are so very grateful for the miracle that Kathie has received, none more so than Kathie herself.
May your holiday season be full of blessings and your New Year bring miracles big and small. Thank you for your love and support this fall and we will be in touch again towards the end of the next month as a move back to Atlanta becomes a reality.
Love, Kathie and all the Sunnarborgs
