Journal entry by Kathleen Rulka

Hello Dear Friends,

I’m happy to say I had my 3 month x-rays and tele-health visit with my surgeon. He and I are both pleased with my progress.

I’m now walking up to 3 miles per day, and he has released restrictions as I feel able to do things. I’m driving now, and after my visit with him, I can get on the ground to play with Lily, which is something I’ve been longing to do!

I’ve returned to working with my various groups that I’ve been in leadership for, such as Prison Mindfulness and the Wood County Democrats. I am so grateful to see how both teams have risen to the occasion in my absence, to continue developing and running the programs. I delight in rejoining the efforts that my co-worker friends sustained in my absence and am re-engaging in my role as an activist and agent of change. I am deeply grateful for their commitment and work as I ease back into these activities and work alongside them.

Rehab continues to be a full-time experience as I move my body through each moment of each day. My surgeon encourages me to continue pushing past the edges of what I’ve previously accomplished, so I continue to gain strength and improve my endurance and stamina. I’m pleased to say my legs continue to have reduced pain in them, which makes this odyssey so worthwhile.

This may be my last CaringBridge post for now, as I continue my rehab and turn toward my volunteer work in our Central Wisconsin community.

I have appreciated you so much through this time of journaling my experience with this recent surgery and post operative time. Thank you for your kind words and supportive presence in my life. It really, means so much to me.

This post wouldn’t be complete without expressing my gratitude for Brian and his incredible support of me and my recovery. I couldn’t have done this without him, his encouragement, and his care. I am deeply grateful.

Namaste’ my friends. I see the light in you.

Kathleen
