Obituary for

Kathleen Ann Overton

January 3, 1960 – April 2, 2020

Kathleen A. Overton (nee Freeman), age 60 of Arnold MD, was welcomed in Heaven Thursday April 2, 2020, after an 11-year battle with cancer.  She passed while at her home with her loving family.

Kathleen was a follower of Jesus Christ, and she portrayed His perfect love to everyone she met.  Her loving spirit and gentle demeanor brought hope and joy to friends and strangers alike. We can rejoice in knowing that she is healthy and thriving in her eternal home.

Born in Nampa, ID, she was the daughter of the late Judy Kirschner of Portland, OR; William Freeman, and stepmother Connie Freeman (nee Whittet) of Nampa, ID.

In addition to her beloved husband Mark of 27 years, Kathleen is survived by her devoted children: Janice K. Whitson (nee Kegley) of Taos, NM, Elizabethe Overton & Matthew Overton of Arnold MD, and grandchildren Lucas Whitson & Lara Whitson. Her treasured siblings are Todd Freeman of Portland, OR, Jenifer King (nee Freeman) of Warr Acres, OK, Sarah King (nee Freeman) of Midland, MI, and Megan Kennedy (nee Freeman) of Nampa, ID.  Kathleen is loved by many nieces & nephews.

Kathleen was an active member of the Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian (BEP) church in Arnold, MD, and faithfully volunteered there as a nursery care giver, office assistant, event planner, Sunday School Teacher and organizer of the needlecraft group which met there on a monthly basis until her illness. She also served on the annual Winter Relief leadership team at BEP, a program in which churches provide temporary housing for homeless people during the winter months.  Kathleen was a regular participant in the Women’s Ministry Bible Studies at BEP.

A key highlight in her spiritual life, was spending two years with her husband as residents of Bethlehem, the place of Christs’ birth. During that time, Kathleen worked as an executive assistant at the Institute of Holy Land Studies, and built impactful relationships with a group of De La Salle Brothers.  While her attractive personality alone captured the Brothers hearts, Kathleen’s creative cooking skills iced the cake.  The Overton’s adventures while living in the Holy Land, changed Kathleen’s life, and many years later, she continued to tell of how she saw God’s Word come to life while there.

A gifted painter, seamstress, organizer, and photographer, Kathleen’s talents were not limited to the arts.  She adored nature, gardening and combing beaches for ocean treasures.  She thrived on loving people and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with them.  She always seemed to find strangers with whom she would engage in heartfelt conversations, and leave them smiling. But most of all, Kathleen adored her children and considered them to be God’s greatest blessing to her life.  Her amazing spirit lives on now through Janice, Elizabethe & Matthew and the generations that follow.

Friends and family will be invited to a continued celebration of Kathleen’s life, at a later date.
