Kate’s Story

Site created on November 19, 2019

If you told me two months ago I would be writing in the middle of the night about having breast cancer, I would have said you were crazy! But guess what...It is 2 a.m. and here I am. On November 8, 2019 I got the call from my doctor saying I had breast cancer. In their terms Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I have two tumors, a few specs of cancer and one area on a lymph node in one breast. Both tumors are HER2 positive and grade 3 which means these tumors are aggressive!

My journey is just beginning as I look ahead to a year of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. But the best words I heard from my oncologist was this is curable, we caught it early (stage 2) and YOU got this.

I am here...I am a fighter...and cancer doesn't know what just hit them with me in the drivers seat!

Journal entry by Kate Wallace

This is a big week!! I’m doing my final round of chemo/infusions this afternoon. It’s been such a long road and can’t believe it’s been over a year now. I also only have 3 hyperbaric treatments left. I will be finished on Thursday. The treatments have been working and my wounds are healing slowly.

I would like to thank everyone for their love and support. I couldn’t have kicked this cancer’s ass without all of you behind me.

I will have several follow up appointments over the next five years. I will meet with my oncologist every six weeks to flush my port and every 3 months to draw labs and perform exams. I’m keeping my port in for now as I HATE needles and would rather use my port for now. After the first year I come see my oncologist every six months. At the five year mark if all is good, I will be 100% cured. She said if a cancer comes back it’s usually within the first three years after treatment.

This truly is a life changing battle I have gone through and will never be the same. I believe I have changed for the better and I am stronger than I have ever been.

Thanks again and love to you all 💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️
