Journal entry by David Bell —
This is the last entry in Kate's caringbridge.com site.
Kate was born in Shawano, Wisconsin. She was the oldest of four children: Kate, Julie, Mike and Jim. She excelled at sports and academics.
After her first marriage ended in divorce, she moved to Houston and shortly got a job at The MITRE Corporation.
She was working there at MITRE when I met her. I was at a technical conference (the 1992 International Information Security Association conference) and met her when she substituted for her friend Emily in running a session.
I noticed her during the session and introduced myself after the session was over. "Hello, I'm David Bell. I used to work at MITRE." She responded "Yes, I know."
We talked. We had dinner. I flew home and wrote my first poem for her. And 368 days after we met, we got married.
We were married at Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was a beautiful bride. She had iris, baby's breath, and white roses in her wedding bouquet.
We were happily married for over 27 years.
Her death was sudden and left me devastated.
I continued our unfinished projects: new roof, solar panels on the roof, and remodeling the master bathroom. Then I continued our retirement plan and moved to Salemtowne, the Moravian retirement home.
I miss her everyday. There are so many memories to make me smile or make me scream.
I love you, Kate. I will always love you.
