Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelly Loken

It's been a great week for Kassie.  She is adjusting well to her new normal.  The week was full of being waited on and trying to do as much as she can on her own, introducing foods she hasn't enjoyed in a long time, like spaghetti, meatloaf & mashed potatoes, omelettes and even fish & french fries from Whitetail.  She is sleeping very well here and getting the much needed rest her body still needs.  Days are filled with chores from Kelly (settle down... she makes me give her something to do to keep busy), visiting with friends & family, taking a walk around the block (.43 of a mile), Jeep rides with the doors & top off, taking her meds regularly to stay on top of her pain, watching movies, doctor appointments & working on her tan. She had 1 really rough morning this week but we attributed it to doing too much the days prior, so we have to remind her that she is still in recovery although she's no longer in the hospital.  As far as her future care goes, we are working on hopefully getting her out of her brace soon, possibly surgery on her left wrist, physical and occupational therapy and referrals for plastic/oral surgery from her jaw fracture and tongue laceration.  We are trying to doctor locally as much as possible to avoid the long car rides to Madison.  Kassie is still unable to drive but has a huge team of family & friends willing to give her rides and everyone is always welcome to stop in and visit her.  I will try to update everyone weekly as my schedule allows.  Happy 4th of July!
