Journal entry by Karly Sopcic

Yah, yah, yah, we'll get to the🔥pic in a sec. Hold your horses. We need a modern, 21st century phrase for that so, first things first. It was a year ago today my shitty rectum was finally removed....which means, today marks one year since I've been in remission! HUGE.  I saw my amazing Surgeon before the holidays, he checked things out, shook my hand, and said, "Get out of here and don't come back." I loved it. I also had blood work and a CT scan done; things are looking well! This will be my routine every 6 months (I promise not to post every time lol), but each checkup without evidence of disease (aka a recurrence) gets me one step closer to cancer-free!!!

Anyway, now for my sexayyy pic 😋. I've had this tattoo forever but I'm not going to lie, the irony crossed my mind after a stage III canser diagnosis. If you're not familiar, Memento Mori translates to, "Remember you must die."  It's not meant to be morbid, but as a reminder to overcome fear of the unknown, a way to come to terms with life's only inevitability, demystifying it by keeping it close. Remembering you will die someday, reminding ourselves of death's silent presence, can help us appreciate life to the fullest. And that's exactly how I've tried to live! This was my dear friend, and photographer, Gregg's whole idea. He knew about my tattoo and kept saying when I was ready, he had a plan. Basically, he's a genius. Not only did this inspire me to feel strong and confident again, but it helps remind me of my resilience.

1 down, 4 to go. I hope and pray for the 5 year mark bc I will throw the biggest, most badass party to blow your faces off lol. Until then, I stay in remission and try to breathe easy.  I love each and every one of you for helping me through this. Thank you so <3
