Journal entry by Kari Paidin

Kari here. It’s been a little over 2 weeks since my surgery. Physically I feel like my movement has made a big shift since this past Monday. I can stand upright now, although I can still feel a bit up a pull in my abdomen, but that has definitely loosened up. My lower abdomen muscles spasm if I move too much so I’m trying balance the need to move my body and not over do it.  I don’t need to take much for  pain, just some Tylenol and muscle relaxers as needed. I’m pretty tired on and off though. I have been trying to sleep in when I can and take at least one nap a day. I’m not allowed to walk for exercise and if you know me I walk 40 minutes everyday. The tiredness and lack of movement has been hard on me. Sometimes it’s hard to know if this is depression or tiredness from my body trying to heal. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Whatever it is, I don’t always feel like my best self at times. I’m trying to work on acceptance and patience that this is all part of the process. Because of all the above, I’m taking another week off of work to rest and recover.

I saw the Dr. this week and had one drain removed 👏. Things are looking well and I will hopefully get the drain coming out of my hip on Tuesday. The reconstruction looks so real and I’m grateful for my whole team.

With all that,  this week also brought an amazing light and glow to our lives through my friend Gina staying with us. She fed us amazing food, took our kids to all the places they needed to be, walked Opal, watched Quinn so I could sleep in and nap and provided my soul with conversations and connection. On top of all that her wonderful daughter (who goes to school here) also provided us with the help we needed. She played with Quinn, made cookies with him and even went off and looked for him when he wondered off in the neighborhood. I don’t have words for the what this support did for us, just a feeling of warmth, peace and serenity.

I want you all to know I feel the love and support  and am beyond grateful.

Thanks again.
