Kari’s Story

Site created on September 3, 2023

On August 10th, Kari went to the ER because she felt like there was something stuck in her throat. After an x-ray and a CT scan of the neck, a mass was partially seen. A second CT of the chest, abdomen and pelvis was performed and a large mediastinal mass was found in her front upper chest. She was transported in the middle of the night to another hospital and stayed for 6 days while they drew labs, performed tests and a biopsy. On 8/21/23, results revealed the diagnosis- Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Diffuse Large B cell type). This page will be used to post the latest updates and prayer requests as we embark on this journey.

Big Update since I realized I haven’t been great at updating this page! Chemo round 3 started on Nov. 10th. I dealt with nausea and fluid overload mostly but the fluid overload got pretty bad and I ended up feeling pretty miserable for a few days after chemo trying to get rid of the extra fluid. We celebrated Thanksgiving at home with our family and it was so nice to all be together. Had my PET scan on November 30th and got the greatest news of all…I am in REMISSION!!! The tumors are gone and my PET was negative for cancer!!!! Thank you Jesus!!! Best Christmas gift I could receive!!! We got admitted on December 2nd for chemo #4 and started on Dec. 3rd. This round they gave me less fluids and it seemed to help with the fluid overload although i still had some fluid retention. And dealt with constipation and GI issues and some nausea. And extreme fatigue especially when i get off the steroid after each chemo! 2 more rounds to go! We are scheduled to go back for chemo #5 the day after Christmas (a few days late) so we can enjoy Christmas at home with our kids! Our kids shared their cold with me which turned out to be RSV so prayers it doesn’t get worse and my body is strong enough to fight it right now as my immune system is down. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas from our family to yours! And also Happy Hanukkah to our friends and family who celebrate! We are so grateful for the good news we have received and look forward to celebrating the birth of our Savior all together!
