Journal entry by Kari Hyndman —
After my mastectomy on May 3, 2023, they found a second lump in my breast and removed 10 lymph nodes, all with cancer receptors. I went from a stage 1 cancer to a stage 3. I had a PET scan on June 2 and found out the results today. No new cancer! But we still need to treat what’s still there. I’ll start a new form of chemo next week-every three weeks for 1 year. Also, radiation will start at the end of the month, every day for 5-6 weeks. Breast reconstruction will be delayed for awhile.
Several days after my mastectomy, we found out that our daughter, Katie also has breast cancer. They are totally different types of cancer and are not hereditary. She has started chemo every week for the next 14 + weeks.
I never dreamed I would be fighting breast cancer along aside my daughter, each of us with different battles to face.
It is so difficult to see your own child suffer and to know what she will be going through and there is little you can do to help.
Continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated as our family continues this fight.
