Journal entry by Karie Sedlak —
Wow! This surgery was day and night so easier than the first surgery! Surgery was pushed back to 215pm today. It was approximately 1 hour and 15 min long. They performed a capsulotomy due to capsules than can form around expanders which is part of the reconstruction process. This allows space for implant. Then then placed the implants. I woke up faster this time around and got to go home this time. I got sick only once-I don’t tolerate narcotics well. I have expected incisional pain but so far it’s manageable. I am amazed that I have arm movement unlike the first surgery. The implants look so natural compared to the expanders and I feel like I can breathe better with expanders out. There is a little rippling on top of both breast but this is where my 3rd and final surgery comes in and they can perform fat grafting to the area to smooth area as I have no breast tissue. I will know more about that at follow up. They now place implants on top of the muscle for mastectomy patients due to overall better results and have been the last 5 years they said. I feel beyond blessed and advancement in breast reconstruction is amazing! Thank you all for your constant love, support and all of your prayers it means so much! 💕
