A month ago Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctors recommended a double mastectomy which she will be having November 7.  The good news is the cancer was caught early so the doctors think there is a very good chance that she will not need chemo or radiation.  Karen will be having reconstructive surgery at the same time as the mastectomy which makes for a longer recovery but this will be the last major surgery she has to have.

The surgery will be at Harris Methodist in Bedford, TX. She should be released from the hospital either Saturday the 9th or Sunday the 10th. Visitors are welcome but please check visitor hours.

Journal entry by Karen Chelstowska

Recovery is going well- couple of bumps when I’ve pushed it a little too hard but generally going the right direction.   Drove for the first time today - just a short trial to pick the boys up from school and slower than I ever have (you’re welcome, Keller)!

Thanks to my wonderful neighbor, Jim, for all the rides, as well as Erica, Jodi, Kris, Peter and any other drivers I may have left out!   Good to be mobile again, and look forward to returning to work next week!
