Karen’s Story

Site created on May 26, 2020

Our world changed last Wednesday. Some of you have heard, but of course not everyone yet…

My Mom started with some abdominal pain around Easter.  After medication for what was thought to be a bladder infection did not help, she went back to her doctor.  Pushed for more answers so she had blood work done (moral of this part of the story is know your body and be your own advocate).  Elevated numbers led to a CT scan last Wednesday, which led to the call: she has a mass on her pancreas that wraps around her adrenal gland and spleen, along with some spots on her liver.  Bam!  Everything seems to be marked with before and after Wednesday.

She had an oncologist appointment today.  I think we were all hoping for a few more answers or direction on the next steps.  We really don’t know much more, but wanted to make sure we communicate with everyone.  The next step is a biopsy. We’ll use Caring Bridge to keep everyone updated as we know more.  In the meantime, my Mom, Dad and I appreciate all the calls, emails, texts and prayers. One thing I know for sure is my Mom is a fighter and a saint (ok, two things…).  She will give this journey her all!  She gathers her strength through Jesus so anything is possible!

Love,
Kristin

A couple of last minute "housekeeping" details -
If you log into Karen's Celebration of Life service a little early, you may see a page that indicates that the next service will be on Sunday with no indication of Karen's service. Just continue to wait there and at 1:00PM Karen's service should start to be streamed. As a reminder, the link to the live stream is: sov.online.church.
For those attending the visitation and/or Karen's Celebration service, a reminder of the mask and social distancing requirements. The news media is reporting of a rise in Covid infections recently. We ask that everyone observe the recommendations. We want to be responsible citizens in the midst of our celebration and grief.
