Journal entry by K Simpson —
Hooray! My drains were pulled! Thank you for all the prayers! After my CT and an ultrasound to confirm the abscesses have been drained, they were removed. The first thing I did was take a shower since I had not been able to since they were placed. My appointment at UNC went well and confirmed that we are on the right track moving forward. I will continue my antibiotics and other meds for the time being, then recheck things in two weeks and start infusions.
I expect my recovery and healing to go a lot faster now that the drains are gone. I am now able to sleep on my side and stomach! It is the small things we take for granted. Little things like eating any food you want, showering, sleeping in any position, moving without pain, and having a hairdryer. (I didn't have one in the hospital and was always so cold after my showers there despite the fact that I rarely dry my hair at home). It is the small victories and each day that keep me moving along.
Again, thank you for all the encouragement, masked visits, calls, cards, flowers, gifts, meals, and PRAYERS! God is working on my healing, and I fight to get stronger each day.
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."
Isaiah 43:2
