Journal

It's been quite a while since we have posted an update, thankfully that means Kadie has been doing fantastic!! I think just within the last few months we have a felt a sense of our lives getting back to “normal”. I am amazed at how much Kadie has pushed herself to do everything she did before her heart attack from being an awesome and active mom to running and working out regularly with no issues.

Last week Kadie had her 6 month follow-up appointment with her cardiologist who was thrilled to see how well she is doing. Dr. Farkas commented that Kadie is the perfect advocate for others who have suffered a SCAD. She said Kadie’s positive attitude and aptitude to get back to normal daily life without limiting herself will be an inspiration to others going through a similar situation. Kadie’s next appointment will be later this year and will include an ECHO and CT scan. At that time they will also discuss starting to back off some of the medications she has been taking.

In September we will be partaking in the Minnesota 5K SCADaddle for Research. If you would like to join or donate to our team (Team Kadie), please follow the link below. We would greatly appreciate any support to help fund the ongoing research of SCAD.

Mission statement of SCAD Research:

SCAD Research is dedicated to raising funds to support the most promising Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) research and to ultimately bring awareness, dissemination of knowledge and research findings to the bedside of patients with SCAD. We have found the current leading SCAD research to be the clinical trials at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN).

Research so far has shown those who experience a SCAD are typically…

  • Young with an average age of 42; occurring in people as young as early 20’s
  • Healthy with no known risk factors or underlying condition
  • Twice as common in women than men – 30% of SCAD cases in women occur near the time of childbirth
…and we don’t know WHY

Since SCAD is little known and poorly understood, education about SCAD is one of the first steps in fundraising.  Mobilizing those impacted by SCAD and encouraging them to tell their stories is another necessary step toward accomplishing our mission.

We will be sure to keep everyone updated on Kadie’s progress, please continue to keep her in your prayers!!
