Justin’s Story

Site created on November 25, 2018

Justin was diagnosed with Cancer just over a week ago. That's never a word anyone hopes to hear or even have in their vocabulary, but it seems to effect everyone in some way whether it be themselves or a relative or a close friend. Since the initial diagnosis, we endured a whirlwind of testing to narrow down the type of cancer and were informed around Tuesday that Justin has Stage IIIC Mediastinal Germ Cell Cancer that is in his liver, lungs and brain with the largest tumor having grown on the right side of his lungs. Justin began his road to recovery with chemo the following day. We have had such an influx of prayers and support from everyone around us. Justin and I decided to get married in the hospital soon after we found out about the diagnosis and managed to do it a couple of hours before his chemo began. We were able to live share the video of the wedding in a facebook group. There is a link to that group in the support section of this website.
Justin has the kindest heart of anyone that I know, he doesn't deserve what's happening to him. But I can tell you that as husband and wife we will beat this cancer together. We need your help emotionally, physically, spiritually, and although I hate to have to think about it, financially as well. This journey back to health will be a marathon and we will need every bit of support that we can get.

Journal entry by Samantha Hoover

Justin has been tired all day today but has finally been able to get some rest now that the coughing is under control and he is able to breath better. The doctors started nebulizer treatments today and that seems to be helping his lungs open up. He has had some rib pain on the left side and we anxiously await the results of an xray to see if it is a cracked rib, but I am hoping it's just a muscle strain. Justin also ate a big dinner for the first time in a while and also managed to keep it down. Tomorrow he will start booster shots and we are hoping to bust out of the hospital and go home by Wednesday. Every day is a step forward. I'm constantly impressed with Justin's strength and I know that that along with all of the support we have gotten from all sides will get us through this. Please keep praying for us.
