And the journey begins...Dec 14th, 2020 Junior found a small lump on neck—went to dentist found a broken tooth and no infection--seems simple right. The lump was not better, so headed to the doctor thinking it was an issue with a salivary gland--not the case. Sent to ER Dec. 17th--had CT scan done which a showed mass in the neck. Appointment at ENT doctor on Dec. 18th, 2020 to have the mass drained and a biopsy done to determine what mass was—wait for results seemed like FOREVER. Dec 21st had left tonsil removed and waited for final pathology of mass to determine course of action. Dec. 24th, 2020---Merry Christmas Eve--got the call it was cancer.

Had a referral to oncologist doctor--Dr. Dan Buroker ordered a PET scan to determine plan for treatment. Jan. 7th, 2021 PET scan complete. Jan. 8th, 2021 met with Dr. Dan Buroker and our world was flipped upside down again. Not only did he have metastatic tonsil cancer—he in fact also had kidney cancer. That’s right 2021—and we received the news--2 cancers. Dr. Buroker made referral to nephrologist to get another set of eyes on the kidney cancer. Plan for now is treat throat cancer 1st with chemotherapy and radiation. Junior will have a port placed in his chest—this is where chemotherapy will be given and labs will be drawn. He will also have a PEG (feed tubing) placed in stomach. They will meet with radiation doctor to determine plan for XRT treatments.

After tonsil cancer treatment is complete—doctors will allow Junior's body to heal and then will start treatment for kidney cancer. We are taking this day by day. We received great news from Dr. Buroker that both cancers are curable. So join us and follow along as we start this journey.
