Journal entry by Wade Byrum

We just wanted to wrap things up here.  We are so grateful for each of your prayers, thoughts, texts, meals, flowers, and visits.  You have cared and served us in astonishing ways, and you continue to do so.

I am feeling better, but still have a ways to go.   Stairs are not so hard anymore.  I am able to walk at least a mile, followed by stretching.  There are many muscles that did not get used for several weeks.  Apparently, it takes longer to wake those muscles up.  I have been on several independent outings which means I have driven a car and it has been fine.  I am not ready for 485 and the concrete jersey barriers or driving at night just yet, but 485 was never safe! My right eye (cranial nerve 3 palsy) is still not working--the lid is closed.  I am following the doctor's orders and getting plenty of sleep, exercise, and will give it time.  I had the Hohn Catheter removed (jerked out) last Friday.  It felt good to take a real shower, although I nearly fell out of the shower door.  Still working on the balance.  When we first got home from the hospital, Wade stared at me a lot.  He's over it now, although he does still make my coffee.

I have had some time to reflect on the events since December 31st with Wade and others.  I was not aware of how serious this disease was and how sick it made me and what my friends and family who were with me went through.  I am so grateful that they and our gracious God were watching over me.  They fed me ice chips, helped me move in the bed, and survive 2 lumbar punctures.  I have never been that sick before.

We went to church for the first time last week.  It was good to be back and greeted by so many of our dear friends.  Our S-i-l asked me what my next goal was.  Hmmmm . . .Hiring a live- in chef maybe??  Or losing 10 pounds.  Our friends are very good cooks!

Thank you for following my progress and leaving notes.  I have learned a lot through these journals and your comments.   There is so much for which to be grateful .  Keep your texts, prayers (for my eye), and visits coming!!

"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgements and how inscrutable his ways? . . . .For from him and through him and to him are all things.  To him be the glory forever. Amen."  Roman 11:33 and 36

Much, much love,

June
