Julie’s Story

Site created on September 10, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Julie was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Thursday, Sept. 6. An MRI showed a mass near her brain stem which was blocking the natural ventricular drain. The built up fluid had caused her to develop hydrocephalus. She had been having headaches, had developed a lazy eye, and in the three weeks before the scan she would vomit occasionally at night and started having trouble with her balance. All this led to our concern and hence visits with an optometrist, ophthalmologist, and the MRI.

Journal entry by Kathy Wiegand

It's been an exciting spring. Julie has officially been off of chemo since September, and we have now had two stable MRIs and permission to get her port removed. Surgery for the removal will be at the beginning of May.

Many people have asked how she's doing. Great! She has gained weight, has more energy, and more ability to focus her attention. She still has some trouble with her balance, but she's been exercising more (a little at a time) to build her strength which is helping. She ran track this spring, has an exercise bike at home and uses a couple times a week, and is looking forward to swimming this summer. And her personality is really blossoming! It's beautiful!

To those who helped support AuroraWALKS to help fund the kid's pediatric family summer camp - Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We were able to raise over $2,800.

Thank you all for your on-going thoughts and prayers!

Kathy
