Newest Update

Journal entry by Brittney/Julene Stowe-Dropps

Hello everyone,

I am back to update you on how my mom is doing and where her progress is. Our mom was scheduled for chemo on 09/23/2021 at 9:00am. My brother Joey wanted to go with her this time. She got to her chemotherapy appointment and they opened up her port to draw some blood for labs. They do this and wait for the labs to come back every appointment before they start her chemo treatment. This time she was unable to have chemotherapy and had to miss last week because one of her labs came back abnormal. They draw blood for numerous different things but with this one her platelets levels came back pretty low.  Her levels were in the 80's and they are supposed to be up in the 150's. So for the doctors it was to low to complete the chemo treatment last week. With platelet levels you have to be careful on what you do because it is something that can cause blood clotting and that is something that we most definitely do not want to happen.

Platelets are a small colorless disk-shaped cell fragment without a nucleus, found in large numbers in blood and involved in clotting. Also called thrombocyte. Platelets are specialized cells that are important components of blood. The primary function of platelets is to prevent excessive internal or external bleeding after an injury. Platelets help to temporarily seal off the site of a wound by breaking away from other platelets and sticking to the exposed, damaged edges of blood vessels. The doctors feared that if she were to have done the chemo that she was at high risk for an internal infection. So they made the call and had her miss chemo for last week on 09/23/2021. She has had her days on and off where she feels great and than has her days where she feels like total crap. The highest her fever has been has been 99.5. So that is one thing that has been staying within range where she did not have to go in to the hospital. That is always a good thing for us.

Our mom got to spend the weekend with her son Joey, and her grandson baby joey along with Kaylee and her 2 kids. She had a really good weekend. Like everyday she has her moments where she is exhausted and can't breathe and just needs to sleep. But for the most part she did good over the weekend. She now has chemo tomorrow on 09/29/2021 at 9:00am. Tomorrow it will be the week where she goes back to getting all 3 of her medications which is the Keytruda, Carboplatin, and Abraxane, along with her nausea medications bags and bags of fluids between medications. So tomorrow is going to be one of her long days.  Like her weeks where she has all the medications it normally runs about 4 hours long. Tomorrow they will open her port to do her blood draw and have her platelets checked and make sure they are at the normal level they are supposed to be at so that she can get her chemo treatment done. The doctor said this is something that is common with having chemo once a week. So we keep our fingers crossed and our prayers high as each day comes. We have one strong mamma. After her treatment tomorrow 09/29/2021 they will get her scheduled for her CT scan to see where her progress with the cancer is and we are praying that the cancer has shrunk or is shrinking so she has a longer life to live with her kids and grandkids.

I will keep everyone updated after her chemotherapy and how her progress goes. We keep her in our prayers and have faith that the treatment is helping and she is able to have her chemo done tomorrow as scheduled. Thank you to everyone who follows her story and to everyone who keeps her in there thoughts and prayers. It means the world to not just us kids but to our mom as well. Pray she doesn't get sick from this round of chemo and does good like she has been. She is looking forward to seeing her son Josh on Sunday and her grandkids. Everyone have a blessed day and a blessed night.
