Judy’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On February 5th, my mom underwent knee replacement surgery. Unfortunately, following her discharge from the hospital, she experienced a fall that resulted in a fractured back, necessitating the use of a back brace. During her initial follow-up after her second discharge, it was discovered that the fall had also caused a quad tear, which required further surgical intervention in March. She is currently in the process of recovering from both her back and knee injuries, including 2 knee surgeries while needing to wear a back brace and a full leg cast. Presently, she is receiving care at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, where she will undergo in-house therapy. During this challenging period, we ask for your thoughts and prayers for her swift and complete recovery. Your support means the world to us.

Good things are happening to the Kliegl family! I was able to get mom down her ramp without her flying out down the driveway as well as get her in the car and to her appointment with her spinal surgeon. They took x-rays on her back and then we met with the surgeon right away. To our surprise she told us mom’s back is completely healed and she has no use for her brace/turtle anymore! However read further for how we are not completely done with that thing.

On Tuesday we went to DMOS where they told us she would come back in two weeks and at that time her cast would come off and a brace would replace the cast. Even more great news for mom as that cast has just been so heavy for her.

Before all of this we were able to all get together for Easter. I knew in my heart this would always happen and it did. With a great hy-vee dinner we were all able to eat together and that in itself  was the greatest gift we could ever ask for.

I am staying at my parents house full time until mom and dad are able to be at home without assistance. Our friend Sheryl who we love, stays with mom and dad while I am at dance, cleans the entire house and is an organizing queen. I can’t even put into words how grateful we all for her and for Lisa. Lisa is thankfully coming to the house this weekend so I can work at our competition this weekend.  With all of this going on I am making sure I make time for my own family too❤️

Angela is continuing to heal wonderfully and dad has an appointment with a spinal surgeon next week. This does not mean surgery but we will explore options. I just want for him to not be in pain anymore and for his legs to be strong again.

I did find out today after suddenly feeling extreme pain above my stomach and into my back (which is where the “turtle” came in handy as it helped with my pain) that I will need my gallbladder removed. It is not an emergency surgery but it will be needed based on my pain level. I hope to be able to manage and wait on that one😬

Everyone is getting better and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Mom’s friends put together a meal schedule so we are being fed very well which is so great since I don’t cook so without them they would be getting something delivered by DoorDash (on dad’s credit card) every night:).

Your prayers are working and we are all just happy to have mom and dad home together again!

I do want to extend my prayers to many of you that may be struggling too. Know that we made it through this and the power of prayer really does work.

I hope you had a great Easter and enjoy your weekend:)

Much Love,

Michelle
