John’s Story

Site created on April 22, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

The facts jack:

In February 2018, John was diagnosed with a treatable rectal cancer. Crazy news for a fit foodie. It will be a long process over the year with radiation, chemo, and surgery scheduled on June 27.  We will try to keep friends and family in the loop throughout this triathlon. Put on your track shoes: here we go!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelly Swindell

Sorry for the lack of updates - we have been taking it easy the past week with recovery and care.
John has been home for a week and doing really well. Gaining strength, daily walks, stamina is improving. And eating: tomatoes and peaches are in season!

Today, he had his first post-surgery follow-up with the surgeon (we really like him, he has a dry sense of humor but is such a rockstar. And a self-professed "liberal hippie surgeon.") - prognosis is very good, he's very happy John is healing quickly and so well, also pleased with post-op pathology results (good negative margins! clean lymph nodes! tiny liver biopsy benign!)

Next up: John has oncology follow-up next week and post-adjuvent chemo treatment is on the horizon.

The photo is real, the publication was in the waiting room. Colondar! Thank goodness for humor!

Thank you for the continued support and healing love.
