Journal entry by Danielle Settle —
J had a cardiac CT today, specifically to look at his vessels and how he is growing. These procedures are always pretty anxiety inducing as they carry a lot of weight in planning J’s care. We know that his Glenn site has narrowing and due to his history, he is at a high risk of developing extra vessels called collaterals (aka a bad thing). We fully anticipated that we would be told that J has developed too many collaterals // he will need a cardiac catheterization in the fall to treat them or any narrowing seen on imaging (news we had been preparing ourselves for).
To our amazement, J has hardly developed any collaterals at all!!! His CT looked so good that he will NOT be needing a cath this fall... We cannot begin to explain how grateful we are. We’ve been praying for no collaterals daily and God has truly given us a miracle. Due to J’s history, his cardiology team is still worried about him developing collaterals in the future, but said he won’t need another CT until next year! This was also so exciting to hear as J has to be put to sleep for these images and it makes for a long day of IV pokes and recovering from anesthesia.
J’s cardiologist was very happy with his heart function seen on an echo today as well. We always worry about J going into heart failure (which he is prone to due to his anatomy), so this was such a relief to hear. Another answered prayer!
We continue to be amazed by God’s goodness and cannot thank everyone enough for keeping J in your prayers (they are clearly making a difference). All glory to God!
Prayer requests:
- Continued growth of J’s pulmonary arteries and Glenn site
- For no more collaterals to develop // no worsening collaterals
- For no chylous effusion in J’s future
- That J’s heart function remains strong
- For all of our heart warrior friends, especially those that have gained their wings (and for their families)
