Joy’s Story

Site created on November 24, 2022

On November 22nd Joy had a tonic-clonic ( grand mal) seizure. The seizures lasted over a few days. Joy was transferred from Mercy to Childrens Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, the 23rd ,she had to have access to a Pediatric Neurosurgeon. Joy has an infection on the left side her brain along with a blood clot. She is being treated with IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics, seizure meds, and a few other meds.
Joys progress has been a miracle. She has beat the odds simply by being alive and continues to improve

Journal entry by Diane Diven

Joys appointments on Tuesday seemed to last forever.  We have some updates about our girl.
Joy is about 80% recovered from her brain infection and the resulting damage. Doctors are hoping she continues to recover, her brain is still growing ( the best news).
Joy has been having some unpleasant side effects from her seizure medication.  So after much discussion ( over an hour between the neurosurgeon and neurologist ) it was decided to wean Joy off of her current medication and wait 6 months.
This is a slow wean… because momma insisted ( ya know, me being me) and then we wait and see.  Joy is on a seizure protocol and we will be watching her closely.
Please pray that Joy can handle this and that we don’t drive her crazy keep a tight leash on her activities.
