Journal entry by Janice Smith

Dearest Friends,
I need to update Joyce's Obituary and add some donation sites for her wishes.  Please find it below:

Neva Joyce Hood went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 8, 2020. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Joyce was born May 7, 1947 in Weatherford, TX and was the daughter of Eveletta Joyce and Marshall Dewitt Underwood. Her early childhood was spent in Manhattan Beach, CA, then the family moved back to Smyer, TX when Joyce was nine years old. On January 6, 1964, she married her soulmate Larry Bentley Hood. They were just shy of 57 years together.

Joyce began work for Braniff Airlines in 1976. She was valedictorian of her Braniff class and was the Sunshine Person. She began her career at American Airlines in 1981 as a ticket agent and went on to work as a gate agent, new hire supervisor and administrative manager before accepting flight attendant supervisor at DFW. She was selected for special assignment as a member of the TWA flight service transition team and led emergency procedure training for flight attendants. She retired in 2003 leaving behind many great friends. Joyce and Larry were greeters at White's Chapel UMC for many years. She never forgot a name and members looked forward to her smiling face and warm hug every Sunday. Joyce was also a Stephen Minister at White's Chapel UMC.

Joyce was an incredible person. Her mission in life was to love Jesus, love others and always help people feel better about themselves. She wanted all her friends to be one big happy family. She called her garden her "Happy Place" and loved working and relaxing there with friends and her precious dog, Rose. Joyce was loved and will be missed by many from every aspect of her life. She touched the lives of everyone she met and left each feeling the love of Christ that shone through her. "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant."

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Rodney Dewitt Underwood.  Joyce is survived by her loving husband Larry; stepson, Larry B. Hood II and wife, Tamera of Abilene, TX; beloved brother-in-law J. Carroll Hood and partner Cecilia Mullen, Keller, TX; cousins Barbara Keeton and husband C. H. of Hale Center, TX; Diane Altman and husband Barry of Smyer, TX; and Sue Jeffcoat and husband Jimmy of Breckenridge, TX; and other wonderful family and many dear and loving friends.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for December 18, 2020 at White's Chapel UMC, Southlake, Texas. Due to current Covid restrictions, attendance will be limited to family and close friends. Please contact the family regarding attendance.  Memorials may be sent to White’s Chapel UMC or the Humane Society of North Texas/Keller.
