On May 21, 2019, Joyce Dahlen had pre-op tests scheduled in McVille, North Dakota in preparation for her upcoming back surgery. The blood work showed elevated bilirubin levels so she was sent by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for further tests. While there, Joyce had an endoscopic examination and liver biopsy completed and returned home to McVille on May 24th. On May 28th, she presented at the Mcville hospital emergency room not feeling well. Tests indicated significantly elevated bilirubin level so for the second time in a week, she was delivered to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo by ambulance with bilirubin levels higher than her previous stay. On May 29, the results of her liver biopsy confirmed liver cancer. Joyce has been at Sanford Medical Center for treatment to restore her liver function and stabilize her condition to a point where options to treat the liver cancer can be employed.
