Newest Update

Journal entry by Charleen Vierhile

This will likely be the final update until Josie's 8 week Pulmonary Function Test.  WE ARE HOME!  They discharged Josie yesterday afternoon.  She did not require oxygen overnight and all of her vitals are good.  She has lost her voice, has a nasty cough (which is actually good), and is still very exhausted and weak.  Her legs cramp from walking a flight of stairs.

She will be on steroids for a two week tapering cycle.

I just want to share two additional scenarios that I heard from a pulmonologist and our hospitalist (primary care doc who does rounds in a hospital).  The pulmonologist said he had a couple in their 40's who only Juuled.  The wife tried the husband's blueberry pod and ended up in the hospital.  His point was that they really do not know what is going on...why some people are getting sick and others are not.  Is it body chemistry?  It is all too new.

The hospitalist said she had a physician who came in with vaping illness.  He only Juuled.  He had done it for a couple years, and then he ended up getting very sick and being hospitalized.  Again, fine and then something just changed.  Is it a build up in the lungs?  Does it happen when your immune system is compromised?  They just don't know.

So, yes, the THC plays a role in these illnesses...but not all of them.  And that is SCARY.

Lastly, there is another young adult currently in Peyton Mannings Children's Hospital on a vent and feeding tube...just like Josie, from Avon, Indiana.

I am going to continue to do my research and figure out my role in Vaping Education, Regulation, Illness, etc.  Our entire family appreciates all the kind messages and prayers.  I hope to never read someone else's story about vaping.  Josie is lucky to be alive.
