Joshua and Caleb’s Story

Site created on February 18, 2021

*Joshua and Caleb are now whole and complete in the arms of Jesus. They lived for six beautiful hours after their birth on April 22, 2021. We ask that you let their lives bring you closer to our Lord and Savior. May their CaringBridge site be a resource for you to find hope in the midst of tribulation.

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On September 18, 2020, our lives changed forever. We found out that God has blessed us with a third pregnancy! Nathan and I had prayed and decided we wanted three children. We already have John Mark, 2 1/2, and Ella Glenn, 1. We were so excited to learn that we were going to have a third child in 9 short months. We praised God and immediately started praying for this baby(s).

Fast forward to November 11th. We had been told a few weeks prior that we are actually pregnant with twins! However, the doctor said the babies were very close together and that we should see a specialist to find out what exactly is going on. The doctor did not seem very concerned, but wanted to proceed with caution just in case. Knowing that the chances of conjoined twins is so small, we did not really think that was the case. However, we found out on November 11, 2020 that we are indeed pregnant with conjoined twins who are joined at the chest and share a heart and a liver, and would most likely miscarry early on in the pregnancy.

Shock hit and tears fell, but the overwhelming peace of God flooded our hearts and minds immediately. We knew this was in His hands and began praying for a miracle. After transferring to UAB and many ultrasounds and appointments later we are now 3 weeks away from delivery, and our twin boys, Joshua and Caleb, continue to thrive in the womb. They are so full of life and enjoy punching, kicking, kneeing, and elbowing ALL THE TIME!!! (They take after their active daddy!!!) However, the doctors have told us that they share major parts of their hearts and are unable to survive once they are born due to the heart(s) being unable to effectively supply blood to their lungs once the babies start breathing. They are also unable to be separated because so much of their hearts is shared.

We cannot begin to tell the stories of how God is using the lives of Joshua and Caleb to grow us and others around us. He is showering us with love, encouragement, and we feel His arms around us as we walk through this dark valley. Please pray for strength, joy, peace, and comfort. We know God is holding us, but this season can also be very difficult emotionally. (And physically for this pregnant momma!!)

We hope this site will be a good way to update you on Joshua and Caleb’s lives, but we also pray it is a sign of hope and light in a dark world. We value life and know that God has big plans for Joshua and Caleb’s lives. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We are very open to talking about our babies.

1 Peter 5:10-11
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

Journal entry by In memory of Joshua and Caleb Lyon

Three weeks ago we welcomed our fifth child, Samuel Lamar Lyon, into the world on October 12, 2023 at 7:15 am weighing 8 lbs 1oz. What a sweet, precious blessing this baby already is! The name Samuel means “God has heard.” God has shown Himself faithful, loving, and present over the past few years as we walked through so much grief, sorrow, and rebuilding of our faith. We are so very grateful for this beautiful blessing from Him and give Him all the praise and glory for everything He has done for us.
“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬ ‭
