Jorge’s Story

Site created on May 15, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
One family that is very well loved in our community is the Berry Family, Jorge, Kelly, Jourdyn, and Isaac.  The entire family have invested in our community for many years through soccer, dance, cheerleading and so many other countless ways they have selflessly given their support and love to others.  Now is a time the Berry Family need us to give back to them. In the past few years Jorge has experienced some serious health issues.  He developed diabetes and kidney disease and in Jan. 2019 his kidney disease had progressed to stage 4 and started dialysis in March.  Last year during the pandemic shut down Jourdyn had the opportunity to come home and help care for her dad.  In April of 2020 Jorge had a hip replacement, in May he broke his leg and in July had another surgery for the same hip due to not healing properly.  One of the positives that came from this time of Jorge being in the hospital was that he lost enough weight to become a eligible for a kidney transplant.  Jourdyn didn't hesitate to see if she was a match and in October of 2020 it was confirmed that she was indeed a match and would donate one of her kidneys to her dad, Jorge. This transplant surgery will take place on May 24 at 8:00 a.m.  Jorge calls this date his second birthday and a chance for a new life thanks to the selfless act of Jourdyn's donation. This site will be used to update you during the day of surgery as well as recovery.  The surgery will take approx three hours.  Jourdyn will most likely be dismissed 24 hours later with a three week recovery, Jorge will stay 48-72 hours with a recovery time as well.  Here is how we can help... on Sunday, May 23 we would like to gather on the lawn at The Berry's House (2505 Beech Lane) at 3:30 to pray for them.  We want to keep a safe distance to keep Jorge and Jourdyn healthy so we form a circle around them in the yard and offer our prayers for them.   We would also like people to start praying Monday, May 24 at 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 25th. Please sign up for a time of prayer on this site so the Berry Family can see they are being covered in prayer during this time.  Thank you friends for loving on this family that we all love so much! Vickie Conrad

Jourdyn is doing well.   Her incision area is sore which makes getting up and walking difficult but her body is recovering well.  It looks like she will be going home to Marion tonight for her recovery.  She also wanted to let you all know that the prayer for water has been answered although it may not taste like Coca Cola it taste great! Please continue keeping her in your prayers.  Jorge is doing amazing.  He immediately is feeling so much better and his body has received the kidney well.  The Dr. said Jourdyn's kidney was vibrant and healthy making it an even better match for Jorge.  If all goes well Jorge will be released tomorrow evening and will be spending the next few weeks with his sister in Carmel since he has to come to the hospital several times for testing.  Thank you for all the love, encouragement and prayers you have given to the Berrys.  If you would like to sign up to supply a meal for them you can visit the meal train site at https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/1o4e35?fbclid=IwAR0nxTmzx4oAdi51_Wunpwo6kZVvk-sXaZRpiB85Kx_P92e2rZE4WbfHW_s
