OCTOBER 2022 Chemotherapy resumes. NOVEMBER 2021 HIPEC surgery through Dr Wasif at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.
Jon's backstory: 2020/JANUARY THRU JUNE Jon had a colonoscopy on January 10th 2020 which was clear except for something that was pressing against the outside of his colon and viewed as a lump on the inside. The doctor thought it might be a fatty tumor. A biopsy was taken later, then on March 27th the doctor informed him that he had a rare form of an aggressive malignant sarcoma in his peritoneum that manifests typically in kids and 20-30 year old males. Jon is 60. His chemotherapy infusion plan started on April 14th 2020 which involves fighting it in cycles; 5 days of IV chemo administered in a hospital (2 miles from our house!! God is good!) then no treatment for 16 days, then one day of outpatient chemo, and then 21 days of no treatment, rinse, repeat for 10-12 rounds (each 42 days a round).
Here are our many blessings! Our family and friends who are praying for a miracle! He is in one of the best cancer treatment centers in the country! The doctor is a foremost specialist in this type of cancer! Other states have stopped chemo for some people including trials; ours has not! I can see him everyday from the parking lot! He is very disciplined when he puts his mind to it and will do everything he can to fight back. He likes to eat healthy foods! He exercises there for over an hour a day and is in perfect health! He LOVES the LORD! The LORD LOVES him! We have many priest friends who are praying for him, especially our pastor Fr Rolyn! God is not just 'Good' he is supernatural and does supernatural things for us! We are grateful! and praying for a miraculous cure!
We are excited to report a great trip to Ohio! Chemo begins May 20th and then a week or so later he will receive a radiation treatment called SIR Spheres which injects tiny beads of radiation directly into the liver through the femoral artery. Once he recovers from that, which is a quick recovery, surgery will be scheduled to remove accessible tumors. God is really blessing us with options!!
This of course also means we will be in the east again this summer, mostly in Pittsburgh, until he recovers from surgery. He continues to feel great and is in fact headed out to play volleyball. We plan to drive our RV across country again starting Tuesday, so looking forward to posting our adventures, miracles and wonders as we go.
Please pray for Dr Pete Anderson and his team at the Cleveland Clinic who will be leading the charge to combat Jon's sarcoma. He is a pediatric oncologist so I can't even imagine how difficult his job is. God bless them all! Again, we can't thank you all enough for praying for Jon's 'no side effects from treatment' and for his good physical health. He is a walking wonder, praise God!
