Journal

Thank you so much for all of the texts, messages, and positive thoughts and prayers. They most definitely worked, and today went as well as could be expected. Jon and I were up at the crack of dawn to make it to the hospital for anesthesia at 6:30 and scans at 8:00. Things went much quicker than planned! We actually headed home at 10:30 and were able to hang out for a bit, enjoy some Jimmy John's, and then headed back to the hospital for our 3:00 appointment with Dr. Smith.

Here’s the gist of what was relayed at that appointment…
1. The blood from the hemorrhage has completely dissolved! Yay! Just typical fluid in its place.
2. Scans show no reason to believe that a bleed will happen again. We do have to be realistic that a bleed will always be a possibility, but there are no signs of anything that would cause one at this time.
3. Minimal scarring, so brain itself looks great. No pressure, no blood!
4. Dr. Smith is concerned with all of the ticks we've seen from Jon, but there isn’t much we can do about them. She feels like he needs around one more year to get back to baseline behaviorally. We will go back after a second round of neuropsych (cognitive) testing (July 19th), so we will probably schedule that for first week of August so Dr. Smith has a chance to get those results.

In discussing Jon's rollercoaster of moods and ticks, she kept reminding me how much blood there was and how much trauma has happened to his brain. She said we definitely need to give it six months to a year for him to truly get closer to the Jon we once knew. We know we just need to give it time.

All around great news! We are so thankful for all of the care that our medical team is able to give Jon. Their knowledge and compassion are more than we could ever hope for! Thank you again to everyone who checked in on us today too!
