Jon’s Story

Site created on March 8, 2019

Jonathan is son to Carol and Mike, brother to Eric and Greg, master of Echo (his dog) and friend to many. He’s 27, lives in Shakopee, MN and works at Cambria in Belle Plaine. Jon is kind, generous, loving and gentle. He loves his family (esp. mom) and is very proud of his brothers. He’s a Twins, NY Jets and MSU Spartan (his alma mater) fan. He brings joy to everyone he meets and adds nothing but goodness to this world.

When Jon was 17 he was diagnosed with Epilepsy. For the last ten years he faced this challenge with poise, courage and strength. Since November of 2016 his seizures have been under control due to the right mix of medications and a disciplined lifestyle.

On Valentines Day, Jon’s seizure-like activity returned in an ugly way. This time medications failed to break the cycle of seizure activity. As a result, Jon was hospitalized on February 16 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and has been in a medically induced coma since February 19. This journey has been longer than we ever imagined so we are using CaringBridge to keep family and friends updated. We appreciate everyone’s prayers, support and good thoughts.

Journal entry by Mike Denzer

We laid our sweet son and brother to rest on Friday.  While it is hard to comprehend that we will never again see Jonathan’s innocent smile and warm eyes, we find some comfort and strength in knowing he is with God and will always be in our hearts.
Hundreds of people came to Jonathan’s visitation and funeral to say goodbye, offer support and share stories.  That outpouring of love and kindness overwhelmed us.  We know Jonathan’s memory will live on with the many lives he touched.
Thank you all for being there for us during this very difficult journey.
