Journal entry by Stacey Hakes

It was 3 months ago, April 9th, when we went to the ER with the assumption Jon was having migraines and instead found out he had a brain tumor.  As we sat silently in the er room trying to comprehend and plan the next steps, we never imagined the magnitude of support we would receive.  This is what we will remember the most from this experience, the overwhelming love and support.  We are forever grateful to so many friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers that kept us in their prayers and chipped in to help us out wherever and whenever we needed help.

Since Jon came home in June, his energy level has been steadily increasing.  He has kept himself busy working on various projects and tending to the animals, and has enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  How far he has come since those early days in the hospital when he couldn’t tolerate noise or light!  Jon is anxious to continue to get back to normalcy and returning to work is the next goal.

Today, Jon had a few appointments at the Mayo and things are going well for 3
months out!  The vascular team will coordinate with neurosurgery and it is anticipated in late August Jon will have the ivc filter removed, a follow up mri of his brain, and if all is well the titanium plate will be placed on his skull.  We pray that things continue to stay on track and for these procedures to be completed free of complications.

We hope all all of you are having a wonderful summer and appreciate all of you following our story.  We ask each of you to take a little time to slow down and reflect on the pure miracle of our everyday existence.  Gaze at the stars, watch that amazing sunrise, and carve out time for all those great people in your lives—that is time that is well spent!
