It has almost been 3 months since our mom suffered her debilitating stroke. She returned to Iowa at the end of August and spent the next 3 weeks in acute rehab at the Mary Greeley Rehab Center. She then moved to the Hubbard Care Center where she continues to stay.
Physically, she is getting stronger and making improvements. I was with her for a PT session this past week and watched her work hard with so much determination. She even did some walking with assistance. These improvements are huge from where she was 3 months ago. Unfortunately, her memory has not made as big of improvements. We assumed they had been working with the cognitive side of things and were super disappointed to find out, 3 weeks into her time in Hubbard, they had not. She is still full of smiles and has her sense of humor. We've been told by many staff, that she is just the sweetest. We agree!
Please continue to visit and spend time with her as your schedule allows. She knows who people are, but just might not remember that you were there. Friends of hers have found a resource that could help coordinate visits (for example, to avoid too many at the same time), provide helpful information about the Care Center activities, best times to visit, and give a few tips on how your visit could benefit her recovery, especially her memory issues. Please know that this is an additional resource and you do not need to use it in order to visit. We thank you so much for your cards and visits! The Calendar will be there to keep you informed.
