Jon’s Story

Site created on December 14, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On December 5th, Jon was admitted to UNMC (in Omaha) and diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy while staying at the UNMC Fred and Pamela Buffet Cancer Center in Omaha.  His condition is treatable and many go into remission after a few years of treatment, which includes chemotherapy and possibly a stem cell or bone marrow transplant.  We have a long road ahead of us to achieve remission, but we are thankful to have so many family and friends to help along the way.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of blood cancer that starts in white blood cells in your bone marrow, the soft inner part of your bones. It develops from immature lymphocytes, a kind of white blood cell that’s key to your immune system.
ALL is also known as acute lymphocytic leukemia or acute lymphoid leukemia. ”Acute” means it gets worse quickly. It’s a rare type of leukemia, or blood cancer, in adults but the most common type in children.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia invades your blood and can spread to other organs, such as your liver, spleen, and lymph nodes. But it usually doesn’t make tumors like other types of cancer. Journal entry by Kim Blain

As most know, but for those that do not...  Jon went to his heavenly home Monday January 23, 2023.  It has been a journey, but he remained positive and his good natured self continued to shine through all the turmoil.  Please keep his wife and children in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
Love you forever big bro.
