John’s Story

Site created on February 10, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

John was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic ICU on Saturday, February 6th, 2021.  It was determined he had sepsis and began immediate treatment and diagnostics. He then suffered a hemorrhagic stroke  to his right frontal lobe Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 while still in ICU. John was immediately transferred to the Neuro ICU for more specialized care.  An external ventricular drain was placed to the ventricles in his brain to prevent swelling and additional damage. It was also determined he had three small clots causing three additional small strokes in other areas of his brain. Clot management and screening continue to be a priority with his care. He was also placed on a ventilator and dialysis.

Katy has been able to visit him some, but due to COVID limitations she is the only allowed visitor at this time. We will post here when we have more information. If you would like, please feel free to leave messages for the family here in the "Well Wishes" section at the top right of the menu bar.  To see all journal entries, please click on "Read More Journal Entries" below. We thank you for your love and support.

John transferred to the Regency Hospital - Cleveland West late Friday night. It is a long term acute care facility in Middleburg Heights where he will begin further vent weaning and rehabilitation services. John has shown some recent improvement during his neuro command following daily screenings with increased alertness to smiling, head nods and thumbs up responses. He continues antibiotics to treat the ongoing systemic infection. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.
