John’s Story

Site created on May 9, 2023

John went into cardiac arrest in the early morning of April 30th. He was staying at hotel and had stepped outside his room.  A hotel employee spoke with John and decided to call 911. We are grateful for that miracle. He went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance and had subsequent seizures. We are grateful for Houston Medical Center stabilizing him.  We asked John be moved to a higher level of care with a Neurology ICU and more specialized care. The doctor was willing to make calls and with the help of old friends, the first place he was accepted with an open bed was to Piedmont Columbus Medical Center.  He remains on the ventilator and hooked up to every machine imaginable. The doctors are unable to to assess damage at this time due to his continued seizures when medications are lowered. We are beyond grateful for each and every prayer and ask that you continue to pray the Lord will STOP the seizures and HEAL his brain.

52 Sundays ago we received the call that my brother was in very critical condition in the ICU.

52 Sundays ago our hearts shattered.

52 Sundays after April 30th, 2023, we continue to rejoice in the miracle that the Lord saved John’s life and has continued to sustain him. It’s interesting how the subconscious remembers times of the year and dates and forces memories and feelings that have been blacked out back into your life. I pray John is not feeling those today or this week as we are. Despite our feelings, we hold on to the truth that the One who died and rose again to save our souls has never left us. Not once. Pastor Chuck Hasty and I were talking this week about how the Lord communicates and comforts His children with illnesses and disabilities in ways we can not understand. I pray John knows and feels God’s comfort today.

“And every prayer we prayed in desperation
The songs of faith we sang through doubt and fear
In the end, we'll see that it was worth it
When He returns to wipe away our tears”
