Newest Update

Journal entry by John Rust

We haven’t given an update in a long time about the Rust crew, and I thought y’all might be interested in what’s been going on with us lately.

Life as we know it has fallen back into a normal schedule. Basketball games, spelling tests, baseball practices, walks with Carol, and neighborhood nerf gun fights fill our days… and we all couldn’t be more thankful for the sense of normalcy!

We celebrated John’s 37th birthday on February 6th and he is feeling good and looking great!  He still takes his medication twice daily and has his monthly check up with Dr. Piede, blood work, and bone strengthening shot.  He has had some minor side effects from the meds, but nothing unmanageable.

John is scheduled to have another PET scan and brain MRI March 2nd and we should have those results the next day at his appointment with Dr. Piede on March 3rd.

It has been amazing to watch John walk through this with such a powerful faith in our Heavenly Father.  What do we have to fear when nothing can change what Jesus did on the cross for us? Jesus is the only constant and unchanging love in our lives. Our hearts may still be gripped with fear from time to time, but making the choice to cry out to our Father is what gives us power over this awful disease.

We know the statistics of stage 4 ALK positive lung cancer… but those aren’t John’s statistics.  He is alive and still as goofy and full of energy as he ever has been.  We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but thank goodness, our job is to only take care of today… our Heavenly Father gives us enough manna for today.  So live each day to its fullest!

Thank you for your continued love and so so many prayers.  And meals are still coming?? Are you kidding me? I’m not sure who keeps lengthening our meal calendar, but we are officially spoiled rotten! Haha! Thank you all so much! The support is just amazing and we love y’all so much!!

“So do not worry, saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ Or ‘what shall we drink?’ Or ‘what shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own”. Matthew 6: 31-34
