John’s Story

Site created on April 30, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As most everyone knows by now Last Friday John had stroke like symptoms while at home as was taken to New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington. After an MRI, a mass was found on his brain and he was scheduled for surgery on Sunday the 26th. During the surgery the mass was not removed ( because of some concerns of the surgeon) and a biopsy was done on the mass. The biopsy was not good and is a type of cancer called Glioma. They operated again on Wednesday and was able to remove most of the mass but not all of it.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Donna Pettigrew

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post any updates,I'm not as organized as I used to be.John is in the hospital again, this is the third time he has been admitted having seizures. Each time they seem to get worse.I hope the Drs can get his meds adjusted so he can get through his chemo and radiation and be able to start his care with DUKE. I really hoped I would have more positive information to post ,but I can tell that I'm going to have to post what ever information I have positive or not. This seizure took away his ability to say words or put together sentences. He was doing better with that when I talked to him last night,he sounds confused.Hopefully each day he will get better and get to come home so we can get him thru his radiation and get him to Duke.
