On Wednesday, December 6 I got a call from my parents house and I heard nothing so I thought it was a bad connection. I hung up and called back. My dad answered with slurred speech and said that he had had a stroke and to call my mom.  I told him to take an aspirin and he said he couldn’t walk. I felt so badly for him because he was there by himself. I called 911 and yelled down the hallway to my principal to down my mom’s phone number and tell her about the situation. I left school immediately and headed for my parents house. They took him to the local hospital and did a scan and determined his brain was bleeding and that he would have to be transported to a different hospital. He flew by Nightingale to Norfolk General.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Cherie' Karmilovich

It’s been a very busy week before and after Christmas. I’m finally updating about my dad.  Good news is he spent his first Day in rehab yesterday. He is in rehab in Courtland which is closer to our house.  He still cannot eat and has a port put in for feeding in his abdomen. He could not go to rehab with a feeding tube through his nose. He is much happier to be out of the hospital. He will get seven days a week therapy at his new location. We are hoping to see a lot of progress! He is willing to work although he tires easily. He can slightly move on his right side but no where near a functioning level yet.  Keep him in your prayers. We’re also thankful he made it three  weeks in the hospital with no pneumonia.  He can physically swallow but the little flap that shut things off from going into your lungs is what is not working and is the reason he is not allowed to eat.
