Journal entry by Karla Menucci

Will arrived at Wausau Airport this afternoon  safe and on time.  Tom and Lori picked him up and delivered him to the hospital. Sooooo good to have him here.  We received a call from the Surgeon to address any final questions we had before surgery tomorrow.  Dr Wild will make sure remaining intestine is still healthy.  He believes he will find everything good but said if there is further damaged tissue he will remove what us necessary and create the ileostomy and close up the incision.   If there is too much intestine that he needs to remove this will mean nothing further can be done and John will be brought back to the ICU and measures for comfort care will be arranged.  We pray for no surprises.

This afternoon while the nurse was reposition John his heart entered afib.  Though this wasn't a total surprise to the team it does present another complication but there are things in place to help bring his heart back to normal rhythm.  As of 1030 pm he is still in afib.  We were thankful the afib will not prevent surgery tomorrow.  Please keep him in prayer in the morning, surgery is scheduled for 9 am.

Other good news from today...the medication that had him in a paralyzed state was stopped.  As long as his body doesn't fight the ventilator that medication won't be started again.  His nurse, Tammy felt he likely has enough sedative pain medication running to keep him quiet and still.  Many labs are run several times a day and many results showed values were headed back into normal range or were in normal range.  Some are still being stubborn in coming into line.  This too isn't surprising to his nurse.  These ICU nurses and staff are truly a special breed. It is very apparent to me what they do, the care they give...it's who they are through and through.

Specific prayer requests would be guidance for the surgical team, finding healthy tissue, getting afib to stop, and peace to Will, Tony and myself as we wait.

With great appreciation to all of our prayer warriors,

Karla
