April 6, 2018

Dear family and friends,

As you may already know, Dad has been very ill with digestive issues for the past several months. He was admitted to the hospital this past Monday (Apr.2)  for supportive care and testing. As of late Tuesday, we finally got a confirmed diagnosis.

Dad has been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. He has a large golf ball size mass on his pancreas and it is believed to have already spread to his liver. He is unable to digest any solid food, and is now on a liquid diet.

The advanced disease stage, combined with his  inability to digest food, means he is not a candidate for surgery or chemo. At Dad’s request, he was released from the hospital yesterday and he has entered into home hospice care.

Anita and I flew Wednesday night to provide support,  assist with Dads care, and to spend as much family “together” time as we have left.

We met with the hospice coordinator for about 3 hours yesterday to review the nursing team, hospice expectations, medications, etc.

Unfortunately this disease causes him to be very tired, he has requested visitors be kept to a minimum, and that visits are kept short.

We will do our best to answer any questions you may have, and will periodically post updates to this site. You may sign up for CaringBridge to send you notifications when we update the page.

Dad is extremely tired but is currently lucid and able to read emails and texts. He is sleeping much of the time, so he may or may not answer phone calls. We are happy to read him any messages if you wish to comment on this page.

Journal entry by Terri Loberg

Dear family and friends,

Punctual as ever, Dad took his last breath and crossed over at precisely 01:00 this morning.

We held his hands, caressed him and told him how much we love him as his soul entered the gates of Heaven to be reunited with his parents and other loved ones who have gone before him.

We are grateful he is no longer in pain or suffering.

It was Dads wish to be cremated, so we will not have a viewing.

We will have a Celebration of Life event here in Henderson at a future date that is yet to be determined.

Love,
The Loberg Family
