John’s Story

Site created on April 2, 2021

Pop's storyMy dad went for difficult surgery March 12, 2021 at Christiana Care in Christiana to have 3/4ths of his pancreas and spleen removed. He has had several complications and setbacks, but my mother is now able to visit with him daily and we have been able to facetime him nightly. He is still in critical condition but is stable.
We've decided to move his updates here instead of FB and ask that everyone receives their updates here. As you can imagine, we are focusing all our energy on Pop and keeping things running smoothly for my mom and Michael. Most days she keeps the phone and text alerts silent in the ICU.
As for right now, Pop is trached and can not speak, but he is off the breathing tube and getting stronger every day. He is conscious and alert now, knows what has happened, and is determined to get better.
Send any good thoughts or prayers to Pop! We still have a long way to go, but with my mother by his side, I believe we are heading in the right direction.

Journal entry by Heather Brown

141 Days and 3 surgeries, but dad is finally home!  He was greeted by some wonderful messages from the neighbors which made him feel soooo loved.  He still has a long way to go with PT and OT but is thrilled to be home.   Thank you again for all of the love, support and well wishes!
