Site created on October 31, 2022

PLEASE NOTE - we are NOT asking for donations to fund this website. Unfortunately, Caring Bridge does not have a way to turn this feature off so please disregard..

As many of you know, John was recently diagnosed with cancer. This site is dedicated to him with the purpose of keeping his legion of family and friends informed and involved in his well being and medical journey. A lot of you keep asking how he is doing, how you can help, how to let him know your thoughts are with him - this website will allow just that. The JOURNAL is where we will post updates. The GALLERY is where we will share moments from John's everyday life, milestones and favorite memories of times past. The WAYS TO HELP will provide links to the PLANNER and an external calendar that shows when treatment is and who is visiting from out of town. The PLANNER is where we will identify and tasks that we need assistance with. The TRIBUTES - please ignore this section as stated above. The WELL WISHES is where  you can show support by posting words of encouragement, positive thoughts or favorite stories to help lift his spirits. Thank you in advance for your help, love and support of John during this time.

John went to the doctor in late August with concerns for a lump he was feeling under his rib cage. A series of diagnostic imaging was performed including ultrasound, MRI, CT and PET Scan. On October 20th, 2022 a cancer diagnosis was confirmed... advanced metastatic cholangiocarcinoma. John will receive chemotherapy (cisplatin/gemcitabine) plus immunotherapy (durvalumab) in an attempt to shrink and slow the growth of the tumors. It is a 21 day cycle, 2 weeks on, 1 week off.

Throughout the discovery process, John has remained remarkably upbeat and positive... "it's a great day to be an American"! Aside from the lump that was tender to touch, he has not had any other symptoms that you would not normally attribute to being 85 years young.  He has had the majority of his healthcare team laughing and admiring his outlook on life and lifestyle... his treatment is built around his social schedule at the local Elk's lodge! Quality vs quantity is the mantra we are striving for.
